Buskers are way more important than just being a quick good performance. They are essential “placemaking” elements too. Buskers create crowds, get strangers to make connect, create shared cultural experiences, and are our friendly neighbourhood street entertainers! Busking - Handpan by Jian Hao

The timbre of the handpan is mysterious and the sound is ethereal, giving people a feeling of meditation and healing. It has been likened to “the sound closest to the universe”. Using the characteristics of a steel plate, the handpan can produce a soft and prolonged sound when it is struck, producing a frequency that can better resonate with the brain, relaxing our spirits.

Jian Hao was a drummer & percussionist from Hands Percussion Malaysia. He often consulted with international Handpan players online, and through his own research and work found his own way of teaching the Handpan. He also wrote his first song ‘Satu’ during the pandemic, with lyrics by Bernard Goh and well-known local performing artist Zamzuriah Zahari.

Batteryheadz Percussions (BHP) was formed in May 2010 by young percussionists coming from different backgrounds such as musicians, educators, designers, accountants, athletes, students and many more. The group serves as a platform for members to express their passion and love for music through percussive instruments and anything related to drumming.

Although BHP is well known for performing using marching percussion instruments primarily found in marching bands, the members are also capable of experimenting with new sounds and materials, such as playing on recycled items like dustbins, boxes, pans etc. BHP constantly aims to excite and impress audiences in each of its performances and competitions. The goal of BHP has always been to create an energetic, attractive and entertaining performance for our clients and audiences alike.

If we were to show you, someone who has an insane street drumming style, that would be WaaiwaiiDrum! His performances involve drumming on various objects such as plastic buckets, pots, pans and other items to create melodies. Hold your breath and see how the talented drummer goes wild with his beats and melodies.
